Red White And Blue Ice Cubes (Printer-friendly)

Layered red, white and blue ice cubes with berries and coconut to chill and brighten summer drinks and cocktails.

# What you'll need:

→ Fruit

01 - 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
02 - 1/2 cup strawberries, hulled and chopped
03 - 1/2 cup fresh coconut meat or unsweetened shredded coconut

→ Liquids

04 - 1 cup coconut water
05 - 1 cup natural blueberry juice
06 - 1 cup natural strawberry juice or cranberry juice

# Method:

01 - Rinse all fruit thoroughly. Hull and chop strawberries. If using fresh coconut meat, cut into small pieces.
02 - Distribute blueberries to fill one-third of each ice cube compartment. Pour enough blueberry juice into each compartment to just cover the berries. Place the tray in the freezer and freeze for approximately 1 hour or until solid.
03 - Once the blue layer is frozen solid, add a layer of coconut meat or a small sprinkle of shredded coconut over each cube. Pour coconut water into each compartment to fill the next third. Freeze for an additional hour until firm.
04 - Top each compartment with chopped strawberries. Fill to the top with strawberry juice or cranberry juice. Freeze until completely solid, about 2 more hours.
05 - Once fully solid, remove ice cubes from the tray. Add to beverages such as lemonade, sparkling water, or cocktails for a festive presentation.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • All it takes is fruit, juice, and a little patience, but the result looks impossibly fancy.
  • They keep drinks cold and get more flavorful as they melt—watch faces light up every time.
02 -
  • Impatience sneaks up: if you rush each freezing layer, the colors will bleed—trust me, marbled is fun but not what you expected.
  • Using too much juice makes the cubes sticky; less is more for that clean separation.
03 -
  • Let each layer freeze fully, even if it takes longer—you’ll get clean, beautiful stripes every time.
  • Fresh-squeezed juice makes the colors pop, but bottled works in a pinch—look for no sugar added for the best taste and look.
